Greetings from your friends at Sikumi! We’re excited to be underway and are looking forward to some really exciting trips. Although availability is becoming more and more limited, we still have a variety of openings from June to September, suitable for independent passengers and larger groups alike. In recent days and weeks we have seen a heightened level of interest and inquiries, so we wanted to let the friends of Sikumi know about the remaining 2006 cruise options.

Perhaps the most exciting news we have is of a late opening for our very popular Prince William Sound cruise from June 18 - 24. This late cancellation is a blessing in disguise for anyone looking to book a last minute cruise adventure of a lifetime. The cancellation has left all four staterooms available for this cruise, creating a possibility of a whole boat charter. Those that have been to Prince William Sound can attest to the breathtaking landscapes, an amazing array of marine and terrestrial wildlife, and an almost unlimited number of adventures to undertake. Not only does this cruise take passengers to one of the most spectacular places in all of Alaska, but it will do so during the middle of June, arguably the best time of the year to be on the water. The availability of all four staterooms offers a unique opportunity to a group, perhaps a family, that would like to have the vessel to themselves for a few days.

The month of July has again proven to hold our most sought after cruises of the year. For 2005, only one of these cruises has any remaining openings. Interestingly enough, the two remaining staterooms open in July are aboard the season’s shortest cruise. July 1st - July 5th, the Sikumi will be cruising the Inside Passage. The trip promises to be an exciting one, as we will be celebrating the nation’s independence on the fourth of July. This cruise comes during peak whale watching season, as hundreds of whales will be congregating in Fredrick Sound. Late season openings are also available. September 8 to the 14 we will be cruising on the Inside passage, with Petersberg as our home base. The waters of the Inside Passage are known for their abundance of wildlife and towering tide water glaciers. Finally there are currently three staterooms available for the season’s final cruise, an eight day trip from Alaska to Seattle. The trip (September 17 - 25) is perfect for couples looking for a romantic means of transport through some of the most pristine landscapes on the planet.

As this newsletter is being written, The Sikumi is making its way north from Seattle. The boat has just passed around the Queen Charlotte Islands, making its way into the heart of the Inside Passage. The captain is accompanied by a natural historian, the chef, and two stewards. They have been enjoying sunny days and fishing off the back of the boat. Yesterday the crew had the kayaks out and went exploring an isolated fjord. They saw a school of white sided dolphins and a couple Orca Whales. Soon they will be reaching Leconte Glacier, the southernmost tidewater glacier in North America, and an awesome sight to behold. The captain reports that the boat is running perfectly and the crew are having a great time. Soon after arriving in Petersberg, the Sikumi and its crew will be setting out on the first Alaska cruise of the season. We can’t wait until they get here, and passengers begin boarding for the season.

Alaska has amazing light and scenery in the summer months, which make for great photos even by a novice photographer. 95% of all our stock photos are from the crew and guests aboard the M/V Sikumi.
