What a great season it has been on the Sikumi this year! With some of the best weather in years, amazing wildlife and scenery, and great guests aboard, it was truly a summer to remember.
One of the things that made trips on the Sikumi such a great experience this summer was the extraordinary variety of places and activities that we enjoyed each and every day. The diverse landscape of Southeast Alaska allows the visitor the opportunity to see a stunning array of scenery in a relatively short period of time. From the lush rainforest to tidewater glaciers, towering mountains, and the ever-changing ocean, it is a land of beautiful extremes that never fails to impress.
This summer we kayaked, hiked and photographed our way through these wonderful places and saw some unbelievable wildlife along the way. Whether it was seeing the newly-born seal pups on the icebergs in Tracy Arm, brown and black bears roaming the shoreline, breaching Humpback and Orca whales, or the charismatic Sea otter floating on it's back, each day brought unforgettable wildlife viewing opportunities.
The interests of our guests also made each trip unique by spending more time focusing on particular activities such as fishing, wildflower photography, berry picking, or soaking in hot springs, for example. Some adventurous guests even decided to jump off the boat into the chilly water to really become one with the Alaskan environment.
After each of these activities it was always great to have a cosy, comfortable boat to come back to. Our guests appreciated taking advantage of the casual atmosphere by reading books, playing board games, or simply taking cat naps in between activities. And Chef Jenny's delicious dinners were always crowd pleasers after our adventure-filled days!
It has definitely been a memorable Alaskan summer aboard the Sikumi. Here's looking forward to "Sikumi 2010" ! |
